Dodgers Beat Braves 3-1 in Game 3 with Home Runs

The Dodgers entered Game 3 of the National League Division Series understanding the need to diversify their scoring strategy against Braves ace Chris Sale. Despite this, home runs combined with an excellent pitching display by Yoshinobu Yamamoto led to a 3-1 victory, giving the Dodgers a 2-1 series lead.

Initially, the Dodgers attempted to create opportunities without relying on home runs, putting six baserunners on in the first three innings. Mookie Betts and Teoscar Hernández reached base due to a groundball and an error by Braves shortstop Ha-Seong Kim. However, attempts to capitalize fell short. Shohei Ohtani struck out with runners on base, exemplifying struggles faced in generating early offense.

In the second inning, Kyle Tucker punctured the Braves with a single and advanced to second on a stolen base. However, Kiké Hernández struck out to leave Tucker stranded. All initial outs by the Dodgers came via strikeouts, highlighting offensive challenges.

The third inning saw the Dodgers loading the bases, hoping to score. Mookie Betts doubled, and Freddie Freeman’s fly ball to deep left field was caught by Mauricio Dubón, preventing runs. Despite Freeman’s near-miss, Will Smith’s efforts were undone when Miguel Rojas’s line drive ended the inning.

Persistent efforts paid off through home runs. Kiké Hernández hit a changeup for a two-run homer. Two batters later, Freeman found success with a sinker that he launched beyond reach, solidifying a decisive advantage.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto lived up to expectations in the anticipated pitching duel. He allowed four hits and one run over seven innings, including overcoming a bases-loaded situation in the fifth. Despite pressure, he navigated the Braves lineup effectively, aided by defensive plays from Rojas and others.

Reliever Tanner Scott maintained the lead in the eighth, preventing hits. Closing pitcher Edwin Díaz secured the win, overcoming a leadoff double by Ozzie Albies. Díaz retired the next three batters to finalize the win and his first save opportunity since mid-August.
