Surveillance Footage Solves Mystery of Barking Dog at Mountain Cabin

Surveillance footage has unraveled the mystery of a couple’s dog barking in the middle of the night at their cabin in Southern California. Video evidence from the San Bernardino Mountains revealed three coyotes near David and Annette Simpson’s front door.

The footage captured these wild animals engaging in a fight that lasted about 40 minutes, starting around 1 a.m. on a Sunday. The couple was absent during the melee, but their cameras recorded the entire event.

In response to the nighttime disturbance, Annette Simpson shared with KTLA, “We wonder why our dog barks in the middle of the night, and now we know.” The presence of rambunctious coyotes explains the dog’s behavior. Though familiar with other wildlife like bears and squirrels, the Simpsons had not witnessed coyotes clashing on their walkway before.

Rather than expressing concern, Annette finds the proximity of wildlife to their cabin fascinating. “I think it’s pretty cool. We really enjoy watching the wildlife and just so close,” she remarked. The coyotes scaling their front stairs were a novelty for the couple.

Despite their interest in observing wildlife, the Simpsons remain cautious about their pets. Annette, who occasionally lets her cats roam on the patio, is reconsidering this after viewing the footage of the coyotes.
