Deebo Samuel Injury Adds to San Francisco 49ers’ Woes

The San Francisco 49ers face another setback with their wide receiver lineup. Head coach Kyle Shanahan announced that Deebo Samuel will be sidelined for at least two weeks due to a hamstring strain.

Samuel suffered the injury during the 49ers’ 32-29 win over the Seattle Seahawks. This adds to the team’s challenges, as they grapple with multiple early-season injuries. Christian Kirk, Demarcus Robinson, and De’Zhaun Stribling are already on the injured list. Ricky Pearsall is out for the season following PCL reconstruction surgery.

Samuel initially played seven seasons with San Francisco before joining the Washington Commanders in 2025. In the offseason, he returned to the 49ers on a one-year contract. This season, Samuel has been a key player, accumulating 206 receiving yards, 79 rushing yards, and three touchdowns in five unbeaten games. He also recorded 281 yards from kick returns over 11 attempts.

The injury occurred in the third quarter of Sunday’s game when Samuel was tackled by Seahawks linebacker Drake Thomas. Samuel was assisted off the field after remaining down.

The 49ers ended the game with a depleted wide receiver squad, but Mike Evans emerged as a star with 113 yards and a touchdown, leading them to an NFC West victory. General manager John Lynch faces decisions about reinforcing the receiver lineup. Jordan Watkins ranks second among the available wide receivers with only two catches this season.

With Samuel out, he will miss facing his former team, the Washington Commanders, on “Monday Night Football” next week. He is also expected to miss the Week 7 game against the Atlanta Falcons before the team’s bye week.
