Former NFL quarterback Tony Romo has experienced a challenging period recently. The four-time Pro Bowl selection made headlines after parting ways with CBS. He cited a need for a mental health break as the reason for this decision. This development comes as a notable event in Romo’s 2026, characterized by a series of personal and professional hurdles.
Earlier in the year, Romo faced legal troubles following his arrest on charges of Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) in Wisconsin in July. On the same day, he faced disqualification from a Korn Ferry qualifier due to an incorrect scorecard.
“If anyone knows how to handle rough times amid public scrutiny, it’s the former Dallas Cowboys signal-caller.”
During an episode of “Tomi Lahren is Fearless,” Lahren shared a valuable piece of advice Romo had once given her. He told her, “you think the whole world is talking about it, but really, nobody is.” Lahren found this advice relevant following hate comments she received after her appearance on “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” post-2016 elections.
Jim Nantz, another significant figure in Romo’s professional life, expressed his support for Romo’s situation. The CBS Sports commentator emphasized that he would always be there for his friend.
In another perspective, Barstool’s Kevin “KFC” Clancy suggested that humans are not naturally equipped to handle extensive online interactions. He stressed that, historically, human interaction was limited to smaller communities. The access to millions of opinions online can be overwhelming for individuals.
“The fact that you have access to millions of people’s opinions … I don’t think we are even wired to be able to handle that.”
Despite current challenges, Romo’s resilience throughout his career offers hope for his future. Having emerged undrafted from Eastern Illinois and overcoming multiple injuries, Romo has shown an ability to bounce back. At 46, he is reminded of his own past advice and wisdom.
