The New York Giants might see a significant boost in their playoff hopes if quarterback Jaxson Dart makes a return. Former college quarterback turned foot-and-ankle surgeon, Dr. Drew Burdi, commented on Dart’s potential comeback during an interview with OutKick.
“He’s a good player. So, I don’t know if they’ll rush him back. But it could be possible in some world he could come back,” Burdi stated.
Dart underwent knee surgery on September 25, addressing his meniscus, MCL, and PCL. While Burdi doesn’t specialize in knees, he cautioned against a hasty return. He cited the risks from past cases like Robert Griffin III, stressing the importance of Dart’s long-term health and career.
Giants head coach John Harbaugh had only ruled Dart out for the regular season, leaving room for a playoff return. Dart’s recovery time ranges between four to six months. Four months from his surgery date would place potential availability right around the NFL Divisional Playoffs.
Harbaugh tempered expectations by explaining, “I think he tweeted out he’s going to be back for the playoffs. Maybe that’s a bit ambitious.” Indeed, if the Giants fall short of the playoffs, Dart’s return will moot.
Despite this, the Giants are currently leading the NFC East with a 3-1-1 record. The Philadelphia Eagles’ struggles, with a 2-3 record and an ailing Jalen Hurts, create opportunity. Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Commanders also exhibit vulnerabilities.
If the Giants capitalize, they might secure a playoff spot. Their current record without Dart stands at 2-0-1. They aim to maintain momentum with their upcoming game against the 1-4 New Orleans Saints.
