At a recent state banquet, Kate Middleton showcased a favored tiara, reinforcing her style presence in the royal family. The Princess of Wales, accompanied by Prince William, attended the event for Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman at Windsor Castle.
Kate wore the Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot tiara, a piece she has preferred since 2015. Alongside the tiara, she donned a yellow gown by Elie Saab, completing her attire with King Charles’ Royal Family Order badge and the Royal Victorian Order sash and star.
A royal commentator explained the tiara’s significance, describing it as Kate’s ‘signature piece of royal jewelry’ and noting its role in maintaining focus on the event’s hosts, King Charles and Queen Camilla.
Since her marriage in 2011, Kate has worn five royal tiaras, with the Lover’s Knot becoming a favorite. The tiara, crafted by the House of Garrard in 1913, features pearls and diamonds from Queen Mary’s collection. It was initially modeled after Princess Augusta’s tiara.
The Court Jeweller notes that Queen Mary sacrificed a piece from her collection to create the Lover’s Knot tiara. After Mary’s death, it passed to Queen Elizabeth II, who later loaned it to Princess Diana.
The tiara was one of two associated with Princess Diana, the other being the Spencer tiara. Post-divorce, the Lover’s Knot returned to Queen Elizabeth II. Queen Camilla wore the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, a favorite of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing it first in 2023.
The state visitn’t merely about showcasing jewels; it was an event coordinated to strengthen diplomatic relations. Held in St. George’s Hall at Windsor Castle during renovations at Buckingham Palace, the dinner honored 160 guests, serving traditional Omani refreshments, including cardamom-spiced Arabic coffee and teas.
Kate has resumed her duties after announcing her remission from chemotherapy. This state banquet marks another step in her return to the royal scene.
