Eight years after her departure from the successful reboot of “Roseanne,” Roseanne Barr is seeking a fresh start. The 73-year-old has self-financed a new project, “Meemaw: A Modern Day Fable.” Barr shared with The Hollywood Reporter that she is presenting the sitcom to potential networks she believes would benefit from a leading show.
“Meemaw” revolves around the story of a mixed-race family living in Texas who prepare for the end of the world, a concept inspired by Barr’s own life experiences. “I’m a prepper. I live in Texas. Everybody’s a prepper here,” she said. The show will feature Drea de Matteo, Omar Gooding, and Randy Quaid playing Barr’s love interest.
Barr humorously mentioned her enjoyment in her scenes with Quaid: “I’m in love with him and I wish he would leave his wife and marry me. I wrote extra scenes where we would make out.”
The sitcom remains unseen by potential buyers and has yet to be picked up. “It’s the funniest thing I’ve ever done,” Barr stated. Previously, Barr attempted to reach out to Elon Musk about supporting the show but had no success.
Barr addressed the 2018 tweet incident that led to her firing from “Roseanne.” She maintained the tweet was political, not racist, and discussed how ABC presented her with an ultimatum regarding the continuation of the show without her involvement. Barr claims she did not profit from the seven seasons of “The Conners,” stating, “It was all a trick.”
Within “The Conners” series, Barr’s character was written off in the premiere episode due to an opioid overdose, a storyline she criticized as, “That was a nice way to kill America’s mom. Drug overdose.”
