LSU is currently on a bye week as the No. 15 Tigers gear up to host No. 10 Alabama on November 7. The rivalry between the Crimson Tide and LSU ranks among the most eagerly awaited matchups in college football every year. It usually receives primetime attention. This year, the game is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge.
At a recent news conference, LSU head coach Lane Kiffin expressed his dissatisfaction over losing a night game opportunity for his fans. He indicated that the SEC may have planned the afternoon schedule to favor the Crimson Tide, known for struggling more often in night games at Tiger Stadium.
“I was like, well, if someone thinks the SEC wants us to win this year after what’s been going on, they must have just been on Mars the last four months,” Kiffin stated, according to On3. “So I guess when I look at it that way, I’m not surprised.”
Kiffin also reflected on the significance of the timing change, noting, “Especially in 16 years, this game has been at night here all the time. I never even considered that it wouldn’t be at night. So I guess that’s probably naive of me.” His remarks come amidst ongoing friction between LSU and the SEC, stemming from controversy over players with NFL experience being recruited by the Tigers before this season.
The upcoming LSU-Alabama game carries significant stakes for the SEC championship and the College Football Playoff. Despite the afternoon start, Tiger Stadium is expected to maintain its famously intense atmosphere as the Crimson Tide visit Baton Rouge.
Alabama has dominated this matchup recently, winning the past three meetings and 13 of the last 15 games. LSU’s sole home victory against Alabama since their 2010 encounter occurred in 2022 with a narrow 32-31 win in overtime.
