In a significant Senate race in Michigan, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas has issued strong warnings about the potential implications of Abdul El-Sayed winning the seat. Cruz believes that if El-Sayed emerges victorious, it could lead to a dramatic shift to the far-left within the Democratic Party. Cruz expresses concerns that influential and radical elements within the party hold substantial power and financial resources.
Cruz further speculates that an El-Sayed win could pave the way for figures like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) to become a presidential nominee in the future. This scenario, as per Cruz, is unsettling for the Democratic leadership, which he claims is apprehensive about the influence of radical components.
Moreover, in a statement that has drawn considerable attention, Cruz suggested dire consequences for national security. He posited that if El-Sayed, who he alleges has connections to the Muslim Brotherhood, were appointed to the Senate Intelligence Committee, it could lead to grave risks. Cruz highlighted the potential of sensitive U.S. intelligence being leaked to terrorists, which he argued could result in American casualties.
“If Abdul El-Sayed becomes the senator from Michigan, there is absolutely nothing to stop Chuck Schumer from placing Abdul El-Sayed on the Senate Intelligence Committee. The Senate Intelligence Committee has access to our most closely-guarded secrets. And if I am correct that he is a passionate supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood, there is a very real risk that Americans will die as a result,” Cruz warned.
Cruz expressed concerns that El-Sayed might alert terrorists if informed about intelligence operations. He made these claims while campaigning for Republican candidate Mike Rogers, who faces El-Sayed in the race. El-Sayed has firmly denied any affiliation with the Muslim Brotherhood, stating his commitment to the United States and the Constitution.
Efforts to reach the El-Sayed and Rogers campaigns for comments following Cruz’s remarks were unsuccessful. El-Sayed reiterated his dedication to his country and distanced himself from the allegations when speaking with Fox News political anchor Bret Baier.
With the backing of former President Donald Trump, Mike Rogers contests the Senate race against El-Sayed. Rogers’ campaign, meanwhile, has persisted in questioning El-Sayed’s affiliations, reflecting the contentious nature of the race.
