The WNBA faced criticism this week following its announcement that Game 6 of the WNBA Finals would have a 12:30 p.m. ET start on Thursday in Atlanta. This decision was made to accommodate an Atlanta Hawks game scheduled for Thursday evening at State Farm Arena.
Despite the unusual start time, fans eagerly filled the arena, with over 17,000 people in attendance to watch the Golden State Valkyries face the Atlanta Dream. The high turnout suggests many fans took time off from work or skipped obligations to enjoy the game.
In a lighthearted nod to the situation, State Farm Arena created a “Work from Home Cam” during the pregame activities. This replaced the traditional kiss cam or look-a-like cam. The camera highlighted fans who might have taken off work, with some playfully covering their faces to avoid being seen.
This gesture subtly referenced the WNBA’s last-minute scheduling decision during a workday. It showcased the dedication of the league’s fans, who chose to attend regardless of logistical challenges.
The Golden State Valkyries had the chance to secure the 2026 title with a victory. However, if the Atlanta Dream were to win, the series would extend to a decisive Game 7 at Chase Center in San Francisco, California, on Saturday, October 31, setting the stage for the championship to be determined by then.
