Fatal Electrical Leak at Bengaluru Hotel Swimming Pool

On October 30, a tragic incident at the Conrad Bengaluru hotel swimming pool led to the deaths of two foreign nationals due to a suspected electrical leak. In Bengaluru, India, authorities are investigating the cause of the incident, which also left two individuals injured.

Details of the Incident

The occurrence took place in the Halasuru neighborhood Friday evening, according to police reports. Seemant Kumar Singh, Bengaluru’s police commissioner, mentioned that investigators suspect an electrical leak and are awaiting comprehensive reports including medical and technical evaluations to confirm the cause.

Officials have secured the pool area for further investigation, Singh confirmed. Fox News Digital attempted to get additional information from Hilton Worldwide Holdings, the owner of Conrad Hotels, regarding the situation.

The Victims

Police identified the deceased as Alexander Maximilian Theiss, a 57-year-old German national and a Lufthansa crew member, and Juraj Horvat, a 45-year-old Slovak national working as a project manager for IBM. Both were staying at the hotel at the time.

Mathew Desantis, a 41-year-old American guest, and Rahul Tiwari, a 28-year-old lifeguard, were injured while attempting to assist. All individuals were taken to Manipal Hospital, where Theiss was pronounced dead upon arrival, and Horvat died despite medical efforts to revive him.

Investigation and Safety Measures

Theiss’ wife filed a police complaint, asserting that the men were electrocuted while attempting to exit the pool and subsequently drowned. Investigations focus on the validity of suspected electrical sources, awaiting expert reports.

A joint technical investigation analyzes the pool’s pump, underwater lighting system, and earthing lines, with preliminary inspections centering on lighting as a potential cause of the fault. Currently, no official confirmation exists regarding the specific cause.

The hotel noted its sadness over the fatalities and emphasized its cooperative efforts with the authorities. Conrad Bengaluru’s website indicates the pool will be closed for maintenance through November, although connections to the incident remain unconfirmed.
