Aurora’s annual Halloween celebration at Wilder Park brought joy to families eager for early festivities. Anais Lopez of Aurora expressed excitement as her children enjoyed starting their Halloween fun early, avoiding potential rain. ‘This is like having two Halloweens,’ she remarked, appreciating the city’s effort for the kids.
Starting at 3 p.m. on Friday, over 20 city departments joined the event, providing free candy, giveaways, music, and dancing. Mike Nelson, Aurora Director of Special Events, shared that enhancements included working with new community partners and a ‘Thriller’ performance by a local dance group. ‘It’s just fun,’ Nelson said about the costumed city departments.
The event, now in its third year at Wilder Park, previously occurred inside City Hall and then at Water Street Mall. ‘The Wilder site offers more parking and better access,’ Nelson explained. This family-friendly event aimed to provide a safe alternative for those avoiding late-night outings on Saturday.
Despite drizzling weather, families arrived early, unperturbed. Daniela Vasquez, a frequent attendee, planned traditional trick-or-treating with her children on Saturday as well. ‘We get as much candy here as in the neighborhood,’ she noted, appreciating the city’s initiative.
Aurora resident Amber Woolsey, dressed in costume, enjoyed the chance for multiple celebrations. ‘I think it’s great for the kids,’ she said, reflecting on previous trick-or-treating opportunities. Meanwhile, Angelina Uhren McNella admitted, ‘The plan was absolutely to get two Halloweens in.’
First-time attendee Nayada Adams praised the ease of navigation and safety the event offered. ‘It’s good for the kids. They can come out, and you don’t have to worry,’ she said, acknowledging the community involvement.
Over 20 city departments distributed candy during the lively event on Oct. 30, 2026, making it a memorable experience for all involved.
