Jalen Brunson’s Impactful Return Post-Surgery

Jalen Brunson significantly contributed to the Knicks’ title win last June despite struggling with a bad left wrist. Most fans were unaware of the severity of his condition until the season concluded.

The Knicks captain underwent surgery on July 7 to repair a tendon that snapped over the bone whenever he took a shot. He received clearance in late September, just before the start of training camp.

Since starting the title defense a week and a half ago, Brunson’s shooting has not been at its best. Fans have noticed this, prompting inevitable questions.

SNY Knicks posted a clip on X where Brunson addressed the media. A reporter noted that Brunson previously mentioned how surgery limited his summer shooting and asked how it affects him now.

“Not at all,” Brunson responded straightforwardly. Throughout the title run, he never used the wrist injury as an excuse.

His current shooting statistics tell a different story. Over six games, he shot 39.5 percent from the field and 32.5 percent from three-point range, both being the lowest in his career.

Brunson displayed his former self on October 28 in Chicago, scoring a season-high 38 points against the Bulls, with 52 percent shooting from the floor and 60 percent from three.

Afterward, he admitted the slump had affected his mindset. Seeing his shots land boosted his confidence.

Despite this, challenges remain. The Knicks are 3-4 and rank 22nd in offense. Brunson’s shooting touch varies, hitting just 5 of 13 shots in critical moments.

Although surgery might seem a likely reason for his performance, Brunson refrains from citing it. If the Chicago game marks a turning point, Knicks fans are ready to support him wholeheartedly.
