MS NOW host Symone Sanders Townsend commented on the election of Byron Donalds, Florida’s first Black governor, suggesting his win aligns with Governor Ron DeSantis’ agenda. She remarked that Donalds’ political stance may not be in harmony with traditional Black American values. “As they say in my community, all kinfolk ain’t skinfolk,” she noted; though intended the reverse meaning. She meant Donalds’ historic victory might not resonate with the wider Black community due to his policies.
Tim Graham, Media Research Center’s director of media analysis, criticized Sanders Townsend. He argued that her statement implied a conflict between Black identity and conservative views. “Sanders is implying Blackness and conservatism cannot co-exist,” Graham said. He mentioned how Democrats treated Clarence Thomas during his Supreme Court confirmation, equating it to demanding political conformity from Black Americans.
Sanders Townsend stated the significance of Donalds’ election but cautioned he may follow DeSantis’ policies. “It is a historic win, the first time Florida has elected a Black governor,” she remarked. Yet, she indicated Donalds’ policy approach mirrors that of DeSantis.
Byron Donalds recently rebuked Rep. Jasmine Crockett, who criticized his interracial marriage. Defending his wife on “The Joe Pags Show,” Donalds emphasized, “Keep my wife out of this; it ain’t got nothing to do with her.”
Fox News Digital reached out to Donalds but did not receive an immediate comment.
