Keenan Allen’s Legal Situation
In parallel news, Keenan Allen, a wide receiver for the Indianapolis Colts, faces legal challenges that could lead to NFL sanctions. Allen has been charged with two misdemeanors related to drunk driving prior to the season’s start. He is accused of operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OVWI) and OVWI endangering others. His blood alcohol content registered at .224, nearly triple the permissible limit of .08 in Indiana. This level represents a higher Class A misdemeanor in the state.
According to the NFL’s substance-abuse policy, Allen’s arrest mandates a minimum three-game suspension. A longer suspension is possible, considering his intoxication level. The NFL is waiting for Allen’s legal process to progress before enacting a suspension.
Allen’s Current NFL Role
Allen continues to play pending legal proceedings, including an attorney conference on Oct. 26. He remains active for the Colts’ Week 2 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. In the opening week loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Allen caught six passes from Daniel Jones, tallying 32 yards.
The 34-year-old receiver is in his 14th NFL season, his first with the Colts, following a one-year contract. His fame was built with the Los Angeles Chargers where he played 12 seasons, experiencing a brief reunion last year. Allen collected 81 receptions for 77 yards and four touchdowns in his return to the Chargers. His 2024 season was with the Chicago Bears, marking his first experience away from the West Coast.
