On Wednesday, the Oklahoma City Thunder secured a crucial victory against the San Antonio Spurs in Game 2 of the Western Conference finals. This win follows the Spurs’ initial triumph, where they entered the reigning champion’s arena and claimed the first match.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who has been a dominant force and back-to-back MVP, delivered an impressive performance. He scored 30 points, shooting 12-24, and provided nine assists. This effort was pivotal in evening the series as the teams head to Texas for the next part of the seven-game clash.
However, the focus after the game shifted from Gilgeous-Alexander’s on-court achievements to his postgame interview. He addressed a question regarding Isaiah Hartenstein’s defensive role against the Spurs’ towering Victor Wembanyama. Despite Hartenstein’s aggressive defense, Gilgeous-Alexander’s initial response seemed dismissive.
“I’m not sure if it was good, to be honest,” he remarked, later adding, “It was alright. It was good. It was good.”
His deadpan humor left viewers puzzled. Yet, during a later press conference, Gilgeous-Alexander clarified his statement. He admitted he didn’t hear the question correctly at first and assured he intended to provide a more accurate response upon realization.
The Thunder face the daunting task of containing Wembanyama, who led the Spurs with a 41-point barrage in Game 1. As both teams prepare for Game 3 at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, attention remains on whether Hartenstein’s defense can curb Wembanyama’s prowess.
