Jeff Bezos Speaks on President Trump and Changes at The Washington Post

Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon and owner of The Washington Post, recently shared his thoughts on President Trump during an interview on CNBC’s ‘Squawk Box.’ He described Trump as ‘more mature, more disciplined’ in his second term and defended recent changes made to The Post’s newsroom.

In the interview with Andrew Ross Sorkin, Bezos acknowledged the president’s contributions, saying, ‘Trump has lots of good ideas, and he’s been right about a lot of things. You have to give him credit where credit is due.’

Bezos has faced criticism for perceptions of aligning with the Trump administration during this term, especially following past conflicts with the president. His presence at the president’s inauguration last year and Amazon’s $40 million acquisition of a documentary about Melania Trump have sparked debate. The documentary was promoted with a $35 million rollout.

Critics have focused on changes at The Post, which Bezos acquired in 2013. Days before the 2024 election, Bezos stopped The Post’s editorial board from endorsing presidential candidates after they had prepared to support Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee. Later, he revised The Post’s opinion section to advocate for ‘personal liberties and free markets,’ excluding opposing views on these topics. Such actions have led to subscription cancellations over the past 18 months.

Addressing relations with U.S. presidents, Bezos stated he has always worked with leaders from both parties. He emphasized his commitment to America, saying, ‘I am on the side of America.’

When asked about the Melania Trump documentary, Bezos clarified his lack of involvement, stating, ‘The idea that somehow that is a way of buying influence is just not correct.’
