LSU has made waves in college football by hiring head coach Lane Kiffin from SEC rival Ole Miss earlier this year. Kiffin had led Ole Miss to an impressive season with an 11-1 record and reached the College Football Playoff semifinals.
Under Kiffin’s leadership, LSU has rapidly built a formidable roster through the transfer portal. His coaching staff includes noteworthy additions to strengthen the team further.
This week, LSU added Ed Orgeron as the special assistant to recruiting and defense. Orgeron’s return is significant, especially given new recruiting rules allowing him to recruit on the road. Orgeron’s extensive recruiting experience is a boon for LSU, aligning well with his familiarity with the school and Kiffin.
Orgeron previously coached LSU from 2016 to 2021, achieving a 51-20 record and securing a national championship in 2019. Many regard the championship-winning team as one of the finest in college football history. Several players from that team, such as Joe Burrow and Justin Jefferson, currently excel in the NFL.
Orgeron’s head coaching background at USC and Ole Miss further accentuates his contribution to the Tigers’ coaching staff.
