Details of the Shooting
A shooting occurred near the White House on Saturday evening, resulting in two people being wounded, as confirmed by law enforcement sources to CBS News.
Around 15 to 30 gunshots were fired at 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW, close to the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. Multiple CBS News reporters in the vicinity reported hearing gunfire at approximately 6 p.m. ET. They were then escorted inside by the U.S. Secret Service.
White House Lockdown Lifted
The White House was temporarily placed on lockdown following the incident. The lockdown has been lifted, and journalists have returned to the White House North Lawn.
Individuals Involved
Among the injured were a suspect and a potential bystander. Both were transported to a local hospital. The suspect remains in critical condition, while the other individual is in serious condition.
Sources indicated that Secret Service agents were fired upon without injury and responded with gunfire. Several agents were assessed at the scene, but none required hospitalization.
