The owner of a well-known pro-America and President Donald Trump-themed home in southern California has passed away following an alleged attack by a stranger. Police confirmed that Kerry Sheron, aged 69, succumbed to his injuries after being in critical condition at the hospital for several days. Sheron, a U.S. Army veteran, was the owner of a residence in Escondido, California, known for its American flags and pro-Trump decorations.
The incident occurred outside Sheron’s home, which has long been the target of complaints and vandalism. The attack was described by Deputy District Attorney Ross Garcia as brutal. The suspect, 32-year-old Thomas Caleb Butler, allegedly punched Sheron in the jaw, causing him to fall to the ground, and continued to strike him multiple times, according to NBC 7.
Butler was apprehended without incident following a brief search and charged with attempted murder. The San Diego County District Attorney’s Office is currently evaluating the situation to determine any modifications to the charges.
A friend of Butler’s revealed that he is a Navy veteran suffering from PTSD. This source described Butler as often feeling paranoid and, even with medication, struggling with his mental health. Butler’s friend noted, “This is the guy that plays with Legos and Star Wars stuff.”
Around 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday, police in Escondido responded to a report of an assault near East Mission Avenue and Buchanan Street, close to the so-called ‘Trump House.’ Officers found Sheron with significant injuries, and a bystander who intervened was also injured.
Sheron’s wife, Maria Garcia, expressed her doubts about her husband’s survival and speculated that the attack might have been politically driven. She commented on tensions surrounding the American and pro-Trump flags displayed on their property.
Maria Garcia shared, “He tried to kill my husband, you know. It’s terrible. I don’t know what kind of hate… what heart, the black heart. They don’t like the flags. I don’t know why. I support America. My husband is a veteran.”
