Dog Triggers Shotgun in Nebraska Gas Station Incident

A dog inside a truck caused a shotgun to fire at a Nebraska gas station on a recent Saturday. The blast injured a woman in another vehicle nearby, as reported by local authorities.

The incident happened shortly after noon at the Short Stop gas station and convenience store on 2002 Avenue I. According to the Scottsbluff Police Department, the dog remained in the vehicle while the owner went inside the store. Another passenger also stepped out but stayed near the front passenger-side door.

During this time, the dog reportedly interacted with a shotgun stored in the vehicle’s rear seat area. The weapon, which had a live round in the chamber, fired after the animal touched it.

The shotgun blast went through the vehicle’s front passenger-side door and traveled out of the parking lot. It hit a woman who was stopped at a nearby traffic light.

Police said she was struck in the upper arm by a pellet while her arm was resting out of her vehicle’s window. Her injuries were not life-threatening, and a family member took her to Regional West Medical Center for treatment.

There were no other injuries reported. Initially, police thought a BB gun was involved but later confirmed it was a shotgun.

The Scottsbluff Police Department is investigating the incident. They found damage to the vehicle’s passenger-side door consistent with a shotgun blast.
