Dramatic Rescue of Baby from Flooded Vehicle in Texas

Body camera footage captured the dramatic rescue of a baby trapped inside a vehicle stranded in rising floodwaters. This occurred on Saturday in Beeville, Texas. The vehicle appeared to be swept toward a creek by the floodwaters.

The incident took place about 100 miles southeast of San Antonio. Heavy storms caused intense rainfall across the region. This quickly transformed roadways into hazardous zones.

According to authorities, a low-water crossing got overwhelmed by the sudden downpour. This trapped a vehicle as it entered the crossing.

Recently, officers and firefighters responded after a vehicle drove into a flooded creek crossing and began getting pushed by the rushing water, the Beeville Police Department stated in a Facebook post.

A white sedan was swept by floodwaters on May 23, 2026, in Beeville. Officials noted that conditions worsened within minutes. The fast-moving rain did not allow time for barricades to be set up before the vehicle encountered the crossing.

A fire chief at the scene attempted to signal the driver. Unfortunately, the driver did not see the crew in time.

Footage showed the vehicle stranded as water levels rose quickly. The water level reached the top of the vehicle’s wheels. An officer reported seeing the car being pushed toward a creek by the water.

As emergency crews evaluated the situation, the driver shouted that a baby was inside the vehicle. An officer ran through the floodwaters, opened the car door, and pulled out the infant.

Another responder was seen using a jacket to shield the baby from the continuing rain as they returned to safety. The police stated that everyone, including the driver, was rescued safely.

Beeville police used the video to highlight the dangers of floodwaters. They emphasized that what seems passable one minute can become dangerous the next.

The department warned, “It does not take much moving water to push a vehicle off the roadway, and it can already be too late by the time you realize the danger.”

If barricades are present around a roadway, they stress the importance of not driving around them. It is also a criminal offense to bypass these barriers.

Drivers are advised to reduce speed during heavy rain and avoid flooded areas, including creek crossings and other low-lying roads.

Police added, “No errand, shortcut, or destination is worth risking your life or your family’s safety.”
