During a closed-door interview with the House Oversight Committee, Pam Bondi, former Attorney General, made significant remarks about her role in the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files. This session took place on May 29, 2026.
Bondi revealed that she had limited authority in managing the Epstein case. She attributed the responsibility to her former deputy and successor, Todd Blanche, marking a stark contrast to her previous aggressive stance on Capitol Hill.
Representative Robert Garcia of California, the ranking Democrat on the committee, reported Bondi’s claims that Mr. Blanche oversaw the entire investigation. Bondi further stated that Blanche decided which documents to release and also mentioned frequently relying on Kash Patel, the FBI director.
Current and former Justice Department officials refuted Bondi’s portrayal. They asserted that she was informed of all crucial developments and approved significant decisions, including the conclusion of the government’s review of the files in July 2025.
Despite Bondi’s statements during the session, she later commended Blanche on social media for his challenging work on the Epstein case. She described him as an exceptional attorney general and dismissed any suggestions of discord between them.
