The trailer for the Focus Features film “Pressure” introduces a unique angle on World War II by focusing on the crucial weather predictions for D-Day. The movie, directed by Anthony Maras, features Andrew Scott, Brendan Fraser, Kerry Condon, Chris Messina, and Damien Lewis in prominent roles. This film explores the story of British meteorologist Captain James Stagg, played by Andrew Scott, who is given a vital task after receiving high praise from Winston Churchill.
General Dwight D. Eisenhower, portrayed by Brendan Fraser, seeks Stagg’s expertise in weather forecasting. Stagg’s mission is to determine the appropriate time to launch the attack on Normandy. He faces challenges working with Eisenhower’s chosen meteorologist, Irving Krick, played by Chris Messina, who predicts sunny weather, differing from Stagg’s storm warnings. The tension rises as they must provide a unified forecast to Eisenhower within a tight timeframe, underscoring the importance of their predictions.
The cast also includes Kerry Condon as Captain Kay Summersby, Eisenhower’s secretary and confidant, and Damien Lewis as British Army officer Bernard ‘Monty’ Montgomery, who is eager to proceed irrespective of the weather.
Andrew Scott’s performance as Stagg is notable for its blend of rigidity and subtle charm. Brendan Fraser excels as Eisenhower, capturing the general’s imposing presence and the burden of decision-making intensified by past tragedies like the Exercise Tiger rehearsal.
“Pressure” is adapted from a 2014 play by David Haig and is the second feature film by Anthony Maras, following his debut with “Hotel Mumbai.” Maras’s direction effectively maintains the film’s intensity while ensuring the complex narrative remains accessible to viewers.
“Pressure” is a riveting depiction of a pivotal historical moment, driven by outstanding performances from Scott and Fraser. The film engages audiences beyond history enthusiasts, aligning with the 82nd anniversary of D-Day.
Rated PG-13 for war violence, bloody images, occasional strong language, and smoking, “Pressure” runs for 100 minutes and is available in theaters.
