Vanilla Ice to Perform at Great American State Fair Amid Artist Exits

Vanilla Ice is gearing up to perform at the Great American State Fair’s Freedom 250 concerts. The 58-year-old rapper expressed his excitement and sense of honor through an Instagram video. He promised to bring back the spirit of the 90s during the performance.

In his message, Vanilla Ice highlighted the significance of celebrating 250 years of American history, from George Washington to the present. He described the event as a magical celebration.

“It’s rare. I’m honored. This is gonna be epic. We don’t take anything too seriously, and we’re gonna bring the 90s,” he said.

He mentioned in his caption that the concert aims to unite people for an epic celebration of America’s 250th anniversary of independence. Vanilla Ice noted, “We are all one. This is not a political platform. This is celebrating America’s birthday.”

Fans responded with mixed reactions—some praised his participation, while others expressed disappointment due to political reasons. Vanilla Ice replied by stating he would perform anywhere if invited because music transcends politics. He emphasized the role of music in bringing people together.

The Great American State Fair, a significant national event, will take place on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., from June 25 to July 10, 2026. It marks the country’s 250th anniversary celebration, known as America 250.

Several artists originally scheduled to perform have withdrawn, including Bret Michaels, Young MC, Morris Day and the Time, and C+C Music Factory. Martina McBride also announced her decision to withdraw, citing her disappointment over what she perceived as misleading information about the event’s nonpartisan nature.

“I’ve spent my career singing about real people with real issues,” McBride wrote. “I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to be a voice for those who felt voiceless.”

McBride faced criticism on social media after announcing her decision. Some users accused her of yielding to outside pressures. Despite this backlash, McBride stood by her choice.
