Novak Djokovic’s Unexpected French Open Setback

Novak Djokovic started his third-round match at the French Open against Brazil’s Joao Fonseca with determination. However, an unexpected interaction with a cameraman caught attention during the match.

A viral moment occurred when a cameraman got too close to Djokovic on Court Philippe-Chatrier. After winning two straight sets against Fonseca, Djokovic reacted to the intrusion. Sarcastically, he remarked, “Can you come more in my face? For God’s sake, make some space.” His frustration was evident as he motioned for the cameraman to back off, who quickly complied.

Nick Mullins, a TNT Sports commentator, noted that an assistant referee approached the cameraman, asking him not to invade Djokovic’s space. He said, “That cameraman has now been substituted. There’s a new one there.”

Despite this distraction, Djokovic aimed to secure his place in the Round of 16 by defeating Fonseca in another set.

However, the match took an unexpected turn. Fonseca rallied magnificently, overcoming Djokovic in the following three sets, ending the match with scores of 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, 7-5. This victory marked a significant upset for Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion and the No. 3-ranked player in men’s singles, especially against the 19-year-old rising star, ranked No. 28 in the world.

This was their first encounter, but Fonseca showcased his potential for greatness. His next challenge will be facing Norway’s Casper Ruud, ranked No. 15, in the fourth round at Roland-Garros.
