Marxist political commentator and Twitch streamer Hasan Piker criticized New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill during a livestream. He accused the Democratic governor of supporting the Trump administration’s immigration agenda through her response to anti-ICE protests outside a Newark detention facility.
Piker’s remarks targeted Sherrill’s defense of the decision to deploy state police at protests outside Delaney Hall, an ICE detention center in Newark. Sherrill emphasized her intent to prevent unrest from enabling expanded federal immigration operations in New Jersey. She stated, “I refuse to let that happen in New Jersey. I will not give ICE a pretext.” Piker mocked her explanation, suggesting she was effectively aiding ICE herself.
“Yeah, I won’t give ICE a pretext. So I’m going to ensure that they don’t have to do anything because I’m going to do it myself,” Piker said.
Piker expanded his criticism to the centrist wing of the Democratic Party. He criticized Democrats for participating in supporting immigration enforcement through legislation and funding measures.
Anti-ICE protests continued outside Delaney Hall, with activists alleging poor conditions and inadequate food for detainees. The Department of Homeland Security disputed these claims.

Beyond criticizing law enforcement, Piker targeted Democratic lawmakers over immigration policy, saying, “Democrats have absolutely participated in this process.” He voiced his desire for systemic change and election of candidates who would make significant changes.
Piker has campaigned for candidates endorsed by Democratic Socialists of America, such as congressional candidate Adam Hamamy. He actively voices support for others like billionaire gubernatorial candidate Tom Steyer. His activism draws scrutiny due to his progressive stances.
Governor Sherrill’s office did not respond immediately to a request for comment from Fox News Digital regarding Piker’s criticisms.
