Bert Kreischer, a well-known comedian, recently shared how a frightening medical incident may have been a lifesaver. The ‘Free Bert’ star, 53, suffered severe leg pain in early January, prompting a trip to the emergency room. Doctors discovered a significant blood clot behind his knee and additional clots in his lungs. Consequently, Kreischer started taking blood thinners and had to stop drinking alcohol while recuperating.
In March 2026, while traveling on a tour bus between North Dakota and Iowa, Kreischer and his team faced a tire blowout on Interstate 94 around midnight. They shifted to other crew buses, leaving the primary bus. The next morning, that bus caught fire and was destroyed. Only the driver was onboard and managed to escape before the flames engulfed the vehicle.
During an interview, Kreischer recounted a conversation with the driver, realizing that had he been on the bus, the outcome may have been tragic without the lifestyle change prompted by his health scare. Kreischer recalled his driver casually stating, “You’re lucky you got that blood clot.” This revelation impacted Kreischer deeply, making him reflect on how luck and unexpected events shape our lives.
Kreischer also spoke about the broader implications of this realization, comparing his experience to Seth MacFarlane’s story of missing a fatal flight on September 11, 2001. Kreischer remarked about the importance of appreciating life’s random twists and recognizing them as fortunate incidents.
The health scare also marked a turning point in Kreischer’s health journey. Following the diagnosis, Kreischer committed to losing weight, spurred by feedback from his family and a determination to improve his health. He has spoken about losing significant weight after making lifestyle changes.
Kreischer noted that his sobriety helped him face emotions he once masked with alcohol. The realization of his own mortality during the medical event highlighted the importance of valuing life’s moments.
The comedian, known for his ‘Machine’ persona, reflected on life’s changes since his early days. Now a successful figure, Kreischer marvels at how far he has come, embracing opportunities and changes, like attending For Your Consideration events for ‘Free Bert’.
Kreischer also shared insights on what viewers can expect from the second season of ‘Free Bert’. While recalling the carefree approach of the first season, he expressed hope that the new chapter will bring as much enjoyment to audiences.
