Tragic Shooting at California High School Graduation

In a tragic event during a high school graduation in Northern California, an 18-year-old student lost his life, and three others were injured. Among the wounded was an 11-year-old child. The shooting took place at a graduation ceremony for Sem Yeto High School, hosted at Fairfield High School.

According to Fairfield Police Officer Michelle Belyea, the victims included individuals aged 11, 20, and 25. The 18-year-old student’s injuries proved fatal. Those injured are receiving medical care.

“We don’t have any information that there’s any ongoing threat to the community at this time,” stated Officer Belyea during a press briefing, emphasizing the ongoing nature of the investigation.

While no suspect has been identified yet, authorities plan to provide further updates. Sem Yeto High School operates within the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District.

Witnesses recounted the chaos as families gathered post-ceremony. One person reported being near a photo area for graduates when the gunfire erupted, causing immediate panic. Another mentioned hearing several gunshots before being urged by family members to flee.

Fairfield Mayor Catherine Moy expressed her sorrow, emphasizing the emotional toll on the community. “My heart is breaking for the students and families involved,” Moy shared.

Similarly, Suisun City Mayor Alma Hernandez conveyed her sympathies, acknowledging the long-lasting impact on students, families, and the entire school district community.

As the investigation progresses, authorities continue to search for answers amid this devastating incident.
