CBP Agents Seize Over $300,000 in Narcotics at Southern U.S. Border

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) intercepted two separate vehicles, seizing narcotics valued at over $300,000 within a single day. These incidents illustrate the ongoing efforts by smugglers to transport drugs into the United States, despite a decline in immigration numbers in recent months.

Seizures at San Ysidro and Calexico East Ports

On Sunday, May 17, agents at the San Ysidro Port of Entry flagged a 2013 Honda Civic for further inspection. An imaging system identified irregularities in the car’s firewall, leading to the discovery of six packages of white fentanyl powder valued at approximately $113,600 and 8.4 pounds of cocaine estimated to be worth $161,600.

On the same day, at the Calexico East Port of Entry, roughly 100 miles away, a 2011 Nissan Cube underwent secondary inspection. Agents found 63 packets of methamphetamine after detecting irregularities in the vehicle’s flooring.

Continuous Vigilance and Enforcement

Officials commended the successful interceptions. San Diego Director of Field Operations, Sidney Aki, emphasized the ongoing dedication of CBP officers. “Sunday may be a day of rest for many, but criminals don’t take days off, and neither do our CBP officers,” Aki stated. Officers remain vigilant around the clock, and these significant seizures highlight their commitment to preventing dangerous drugs from entering the country.

Efforts Aligned with Administration Policies

The agency maintains that their work aligns with the initiatives of the Trump administration and DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin. Although immigration border crossings have decreased since the end of 2024, with numbers dropping from over 144,000 in December 2024 to 10,000 in April, CBP has noted numerous high-profile smuggling attempts involving weapons, narcotics, and people.

Recent reports from CBP have detailed efforts to prevent various illegal activities. Officers stopped a car carrying a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, identified dozens of people hidden in a semi-truck, and detained a boat with the aid of a Black Hawk helicopter off the Dominican Republic’s coast.

“CBP officers along the southwest border stop illegal activity, including the smuggling of drugs and humans, and facilitate lawful entry for millions of legitimate travelers into the United States,” stated CBP.
