Knicks Lead NBA Finals After Game 1 Victory Against Spurs

In Game 1 of the NBA Finals, Jalen Brunson took the spotlight, guiding the New York Knicks to a win over the San Antonio Spurs. Despite Victor Wembanyama’s efforts for the Spurs in his finals debut, the collective performance decided the game’s outcome.

Game 2 is scheduled for Friday night in San Antonio. The Spurs aim to even the score before the series shifts to New York. For the Knicks, a win would make them the first team since Houston in 1995 to start the NBA Finals with two consecutive road victories. The game begins at 8:42 p.m. EDT and will air on ABC, with the Spurs being 6.5-point favorites.

Brunson scored 30 points in Game 1, helping the Knicks overcome a 14-point deficit in the third quarter and finish with an 11-0 run. His contributions were complemented by Josh Hart’s remarkable performance. Although Hart scored three points, his 15 rebounds, six assists, and four steals made a significant impact. The only player with similar finals stats was Larry Bird in 1986.

His energy is just relentless. It doesn’t stop,

said Brunson, about Hart, highlighting his boundless energy attributed to his constant candy consumption.

The Knicks are on a 12-game playoff win streak, eyeing their 13th win, which would mark the second-longest playoff streak in a single NBA season. The record is held by Golden State, with 15 consecutive wins in 2017.

Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox emphasized the need for adjustments, stating, Obviously, you want to win every game that you have on your home court, but it’s not the way it happens every day. We try to go in and fix the things we need to fix.
