Knicks Lead Spurs Entering Fourth Quarter

The New York Knicks hold an 84-75 lead over the San Antonio Spurs as they enter the final 12 minutes of play. The Spurs need a comeback to avoid falling into an 0-2 series deficit as the series shifts to New York.

Karl-Anthony Towns has greatly influenced the game, with the Knicks outscoring the Spurs by 19 points during his 24 minutes on the floor. However, Towns and teammate Josh Hart must remain cautious in the fourth quarter as both have accumulated four fouls.

Jalen Brunson heads to the bench after making only 4 of his 16 shots. The question is whether he can replicate a strong fourth-quarter performance as he did in Game 1, where he scored 11 points to secure the win.

Victor Wembanyama had a productive third quarter, scoring 10 points, boosting his total to 17 on 6-of-11 shooting, despite a quiet first half. Nevertheless, the Spurs’ offense struggles continue, shooting 42% overall and 30% from three-point range.

The Knicks’ three-point shooting has improved since Game 1, going 10-for-24 so far, with Jalen Brunson making a significant shot in transition over Wembanyama to extend their lead.

Despite the shooting woes, De’Aaron Fox contributes nine points in the first quarter, improving his performance after a challenging Game 1. The Spurs continue to employ intentional fouling, known as the “Hack-a-Mitch” strategy, to exploit Knicks’ Mitchell Robinson’s free-throw difficulties.

At halftime, New York leads 56-52 after a 16-point turnaround, with Towns leading all scorers with 17 points. The Knicks fans, packing bars in Brooklyn, showed tremendous support as New York regained control before halftime.

As Game 2 progresses, critical points of interest include whether Towns can maintain his disciplined defense against Wembanyama and if Wembanyama can operate effectively close to the rim to change the Spurs’ offensive rhythm.
