Carnival Cruise Line has implemented stricter dress code regulations for its passengers visiting Lifou, a well-known stop in the South Pacific. Before docking at this New Caledonian island, guests receive a notice highlighting the importance of adhering to local dress expectations.
According to Cruise Hive, the reminder comes ahead of the ship’s scheduled visit on June 2, part of an eight-night voyage from Sydney. Passengers are informed about the need to dress conservatively while on the island. Items such as G-strings, thongs, monokinis, and mankinis are discouraged. The warning also includes a prohibition on topless sunbathing.
The dress code is not limited to beaches. It extends to public areas like markets and community spaces. This guidance aligns with the policies Carnival already shares with guests on its website.
“We kindly ask guests to respect the local culture and rules in the ports we visit,”
Carnival emphasizes Lifou’s particular cultural norms. As a tribal island, it hosts indigenous people with traditions rooted in respect and religion. Visitors are urged to wear modest one-piece or full-piece swimsuits at beaches, in line with local customs.
The cruise line cautions that failure to comply with these customs might influence future itinerary decisions. Maintaining a respectful presence is crucial for preserving Lifou as a destination on future voyages.
The company acknowledges differences between onboard attire and destination-specific dress codes. While the ship allows casual resort wear during the day, guests should ensure their clothing suits the setting and respects fellow travelers. Opinions on Carnival’s swimwear policies vary among passengers. Some argue for freedom of clothing choice, referencing common practices observed on board. However, others highlight the importance of mindfulness in family-oriented areas.
