Talk show host Bill Maher has announced he will feature in a documentary about the conservative activist Charlie Kirk. During a conversation with comedian Jeff Dunham on ‘Club Random,’ Maher highlighted his notable interview with Kirk.
Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, was known for participating in debates across the political spectrum. He was tragically killed during a campus event last September. Dunham commended Maher for the interview, which Maher also found particularly engaging.
By the way they’re doing a documentary and they asked if I would be in it,Maher disclosed.I said yes. I’m giving them five minutes after my taping Friday night because – and I told them, ‘Don’t expect me to be just saying you know, hagiography about Charlie.’ I liked him as a person. I’m glad I talked to him.
Bill Maher has often criticized some Democrats for their reluctance to engage with opposing views. He pointed out that while some critics highlighted Kirk’s controversial statements after his death, they did not entirely define him.
I do not think he was a monster,
Maher clarified. And if you look at his statements, I’ve read the full statements – because everybody is only interested in getting points for their team. They mischaracterized them. But even when I read the full statement, which were accurately characterized, I still disagreed with them. But it wasn’t what they presented.
Maher appreciates discussions that involve listening and considering differing viewpoints. Jeff Dunham noted that Maher allowed Kirk to express his ideas fully during their interview.
My little motto here is everybody’s a monster [until] you talk to them,
Maher remarked. He cited many interactions with conservatives on his show.
Maher criticized Democrats, including some moderates, for their unwillingness to engage in dialogue with their political opponents. He noted that Republicans are generally more open to conversations.
