Independent Senator Angus King has joined ten other senators in raising concerns about the allocation of revenue generated from online sales of national park passes. They allege that much, if not all, of these funds are being diverted to what they describe as Washington D.C. ‘vanity projects.’
Their concerns were formally presented in a letter addressed to Interior Secretary Doug Burgum on Wednesday, where they requested clarity on how these funds are being utilized under the Trump administration. The letter highlights the potential misuse of resources intended for park maintenance and preservation.
On Sunday, construction workers were seen at the Reflecting Pool near the Lincoln Memorial, an area presumably impacted by these funding decisions, as reported by Tom Brenner for The Washington Post.
