The Dallas Cowboys recently signed George Pickens to a one-year franchise tag tender. However, concerns remain about his upcoming attendance at the team’s mandatory minicamp.
Pickens had missed the team’s OTAs, raising doubts about his participation in the minicamp due to past behavior while with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Despite this, head coach Brian Schottenheimer and fellow wide receiver CeeDee Lamb are confident he will attend as scheduled.
Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio highlighted the importance of Pickens attending the minicamp. Florio commented, “Pickens must show that his performance last year in Dallas wasn’t a fluke by attending the upcoming mandatory minicamp. His absence would raise eyebrows about his intentions, especially after committing by signing the tender. Skipping it could result in significant fines.”
The Cowboys face a pivotal question on whether Pickens is ready to secure a stronger future contract by attending all mandatory events or if his past issues might persist. Until he appears at the minicamp, concerns linger about a potential holdout or trade demand.
Despite these concerns, reports suggest the Cowboys are not considering a trade involving Pickens. Both parties seem committed to seeing the 2026 season through with hopes of a prosperous contract extension thereafter.
