Sixteen years after the release of the biographical drama “The Social Network,” a new film re-examines Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg’s story. Titled “The Social Reckoning,” this upcoming drama is already generating significant buzz. The film’s first look, released on Wednesday, has captured attention for the right reasons.
Directed by Aaron Sorkin, “The Social Reckoning” presents an all-star cast. It features Emmy-winning actor Jeremy Allen White and Oscar-winner Mikey Madison. Jeremy Strong takes on the role of Zuckerberg, originally played by Jesse Eisenberg in “The Social Network.”
The new film is said to explore the 2021 whistleblowing case involving Facebook. Unlike its predecessor that chronicled Facebook’s inception, “The Social Reckoning” addresses more recent controversies. Mikey Madison plays engineer Frances Haugen, who revealed thousands of Facebook’s confidential documents to the Wall Street Journal in 2021. The cast also includes Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin, Billy Magnussen, and Bill Burr in key roles.
Columbia Pictures, Alcon Entertainment, and The Gotham Group produce the film with assistance from Escape Artists. Sony Pictures Releasing handles distribution. “The Social Reckoning” is scheduled for release on October 9.
“Jeremy Strong, Jeremy Allen White, and Mikey Madison is an absurdly stacked cast for a tech drama,” commented one enthusiastic fan on social media.
Another viewer noted, “Jeremy Allen White and Mikey Madison’s involvement feels intense and grounded, especially with the whistleblower angle.” Others praised the anticipated portrayal of Zuckerberg by Strong, his delivery of the line, “I’m not two years out of a dorm room anymore Charlie,” standing out.
Fans expressed excitement over the casting and thematic direction of the film. Social media users highlighted the strong casting choices and anticipated the film to be significant cinematic work. The new take on Zuckerberg’s story promises to delve into Facebook’s evolution and the growing challenges it faces today.
