A suspect armed with a weapon fatally wounded a 63-year-old man during a confrontation in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood. This incident occurred on a Monday evening and involved a known individual, according to Chicago police.
Officers on patrol received a call reporting shots fired shortly before 8:30 p.m. The initial investigation indicated that an argument between the victim and the suspect led to the suspect drawing a weapon and firing multiple shots, striking the man.
The victim was transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was declared dead. The suspect attempted to flee north along the 4800 block of Clark Street. This triggered a foot pursuit by the officers.
While the pursuit continued on Argyle Street, the suspect pointed the firearm at the pursuing officers. In response, the officers discharged their weapons, striking the suspect. Afterward, police provided medical aid on the scene.
The suspect was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston and was reported to be in critical condition. A firearm was recovered from the scene.
Three officers were also transported to a local hospital for observation following the shooting. Both Chicago’s Investigative Response Team and the Civilian Office of Police Accountability have been informed of the incident.
The officers involved will be placed on routine administrative duty for a period of at least 30 days.
