Authorities have charged a Georgia couple with murder following the alleged killing and dismemberment of a bartender whose remains were found in a lake.
Mario Andre Barber, 46, and Brittany Amber Baker, 42, were arrested for allegedly murdering Jamal Rashad Parker, 37. The incident occurred at a home outside Atlanta, as noted by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
In May, investigators discovered Parker’s dismembered remains in the Dog River Reservoir, located roughly 30 miles from Atlanta. His identity was confirmed through DNA technology, after his father reported that the tattoos on the remains matched his son’s.
Reports indicate that Parker may have known his alleged killers. A GoFundMe page set up by a family member described them as “people he knew and trusted.” Investigators believe Parker was killed inside Brittany Baker’s Douglasville residence.
Last month, police collected evidence, including a reciprocating saw and cleaning supplies, from Baker’s home. The suspects have pleaded not guilty and are detained without bond. Both have extensive criminal records.
Charles Parker, Jamal’s father, expressed desires for severe punishment for the accused, stating a life sentence might not suffice. He described the crime as something “you see on TV,” citing the lack of remorse he perceived.
Parker, known for his vibrant spirit, was a bartender at Ms. Icey’s Kitchen & Bar in Atlanta. He was celebrated as a musician and visual artist. A GoFundMe page aimed at covering his burial costs says, “He loved life and the people he met along his journey.” The family is profoundly impacted by the loss.
