Guy Benson’s Perspective on NYC’s Far-Left Candidates

Guy Benson has expressed his concerns about the platforms of Democratic socialist candidates in New York City. He specifically highlights Darializa Chevalier’s reluctance to denounce Hamas and her views on issues like dismantling ICE and opposing deportations even for serious offenders. Benson questions whether such extreme positions resonate with New York voters.

In a closely-watched political contest, New York Assemblyman Micah Lasher secured the Democratic primary. This win comes as he prepares to replace retiring Rep. Jerry Nadler in Manhattan. The primary also featured significant figures like anti-Trump attorney George Conway, Jack Schlossberg of the Kennedy family, and fellow Assemblyman Alex Bores.

The race drew national interest given Nadler’s retirement after representing the district since 1992. The diverse candidates included Conway, a well-known critic of Trump and the former husband of Kellyanne Conway, a past adviser to Trump.

Jack Schlossberg also brought attention due to his family’s legacy and expansive social media influence. Despite high-profile names, Lasher’s victory suggests that traditional local endorsements still play a pivotal role. He garnered support from retiring Nadler and other top New York politicians.

Lasher previously worked with Nadler, served under Gov. Kathy Hochul, and was part of the state legislative team during Michael Bloomberg’s mayoralty. His connections provided a strong foundation of political backing. The tech industry was notably involved as Bores’ campaign spotlighted AI legislation, facing heavy opposition from tech super PACs. The race became a battleground on the state’s role in tech regulation.

Going into the November general election, Lasher stands as the favorite in this predominantly Democratic district, encompassing affluent areas like the Upper West Side, Upper East Side, Midtown, and Chelsea.
