“Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan expressed concerns about Democrats’ refusal to acknowledge President Donald Trump’s legitimacy during a discussion with Joe Rogan. Sheridan warned that this attitude threatens the rule of law, especially in the post-COVID era.
Throughout Trump’s presidency, he has faced significant opposition from various leaders and institutions. Examples include sanctuary cities not cooperating with federal agents and officials opposing his agenda. On a broader scale, there has been a perception that Trump was not legitimately elected, which occurs amid a crisis of legitimacy in American institutions, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sheridan stated, “I think in 30 years when they look back, like we are still suffering from a society from COVID, and not so much from the disease itself, but from our faith in the institutions around us.” He mentioned that various institutions, including government, media, and pharmaceutical companies, have been manipulated for political gain.
Sheridan compared this situation to military efforts to “win hearts and minds” of adversaries, such as in Japan during World War II. However, he noted that this strategy has not been effective in other contexts. He warned that undermining Trump’s administration risks damaging America’s rule of law.
He explained, “You can like Trump or not like Trump, but now defying the rule of law because he happens to be the head of the federal government, the repercussions of that are going to be, ‘Okay, fine. You can’t stand this man. You think he’s a terrible president, and you’re not going to follow his laws. But that’s the new normal now.’”
Joe Rogan also shared his thoughts on the situation, agreeing with the need to address illegal immigration but cautioning against the use of militarized police tactics. He expressed concern that this approach could create a dangerous precedent that might be exploited by future leaders.
Sheridan added, “These politicians right now are doing a tremendous disservice in Washington because they’re not thinking beyond this next election. And maybe they never have, but they were better at hiding it.”
Sheridan emphasized that the cultural impact of the COVID-19 pandemic still affects Americans, making them skeptical of previously respected institutions.
