Victor Willis, the renowned lead singer of the disco group Village People, has died at the age of 74. His band confirmed this in a statement, revealing he succumbed to a ‘short but aggressive illness.’
Known for his performances with the Village People in the 1970s, Willis played a pivotal role as both co-founder and original lead singer of the band. He was instrumental in creating many of their songs.
“We are profoundly sad to announce the death of VICTOR WILLIS, lead singer of Village People,” the band stated on their official Facebook page.
Willis, who had gained popularity for his cop costume and the hit single ‘YMCA,’ passed away on June 30, 2026. Following his departure from the group in 1979, he pursued a solo career. The band has requested privacy during this time.
