Mt. Olive Pickle Company Withdraws from Fair Over Confederate Flag

Mt. Olive Pickle Company has chosen to withdraw from the Great American State Fair in Washington, D.C. The decision came after the inclusion of a Confederate flag in an exhibit. The company had initially agreed to join the North Carolina exhibit to showcase the state’s highlights.

The North Carolina exhibit aimed to represent the state, but budget constraints led to the withdrawal of official participation. Despite this, private companies, such as Mt. Olive Pickle, stepped in to maintain the state’s presence. This inclusion was overshadowed by the appearance of a Confederate flag in a video within the exhibit, prompting the pickle company to withdraw.

Mt. Olive Pickle stated that they were unaware of the image being used and emphasized their commitment to human dignity and freedom. In their statement, the company underscored their values as fundamental to their identity and actions.

Despite the setback, the North Carolina booth continues to host local companies like Operation Helo and features a NASCAR stock car from Richard Childress Racing. The fair, which began on June 25, runs until July 10 on the National Mall.
