TYLER, Texas — Vice President JD Vance has stated that the Trump administration plans not to interfere with the Department of Justice’s investigation into Representative Ilhan Omar, Democrat from Minnesota, following a recent raid at her Washington, D.C., residence.
Vance emphasized that if immigration fraud is discovered, the law will be enforced. He expressed a desire for the administration to differ from the previous one by avoiding using the law against political opponents. “We want the law and facts to guide us,” he said, after a campaign rally in Texas.
The raid at Omar’s home was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations, connected to allegations regarding immigration fraud. This event has sparked comparisons with historical instances of alleged political persecution.
“In our administration, we let facts and law guide us,” Vance stated. He assured that they would not micromanage DOJ investigations.
Despite the unprecedented nature of investigating a sitting Congress member for immigration fraud, Vance reiterated that authorities must follow the legal process.
Additionally, Vance criticized Omar for her perceived negative views towards the United States, noting her family’s refugee status from Somalia. He clarified that such sentiments are not criminal, but reiterated that legal transgressions must be addressed.
During the rally, Vance supported Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, amidst tight electoral races. Omar responded to the raid through social media, claiming it represents political targeting and abuse of power.
“I’m okay,” Omar shared online, attributing the federal actions to Trump’s long-standing verbal attacks. She described the raid as intimidation and an abuse of governmental power.
Fox News Digital reached out to Omar’s office for further comments, though no response was received at the time of publication.
