President Donald Trump recently shared a video on Truth Social featuring a gold replica of Mount Rushmore with his face added alongside Abraham Lincoln. The video begins with the phrase “Art of the vision,” set against an American flag. In the clip, Trump’s voice states, I will be the greatest president for many, many years to come.
He adds, And we’re gonna have a lot of fun tonight.
Trump shared the video before a speech at Mount Rushmore, marking the start of America’s 250th birthday celebrations.
The president traveled to the South Dakota national memorial, which honors George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln, speaking beneath their towering stone visages. Trump has previously floated the idea of joining the mountain’s iconic lineup, though space constraints make this unlikely.
Trump’s Speech on America’s 250th Anniversary
During his address, Trump focused on the nation’s 250-year history, proclaiming the U.S. as the most successful, most accomplished, most exceptional nation ever to exist in human history.
He emphasized the significance of the celebration, saying, Tonight we gather on the eve of one of the most extraordinary days in the history of the world. Tomorrow, we mark 250 years of glorious independence and 250 years of majestic American freedom.
In his half-hour speech, Trump warned about perceived threats from the political left. He said, Communism is a mortal threat to American liberty,
describing it as a more significant threat than historical events like World War I, World War II, Pearl Harbor, or 9/11. His remarks came amid criticism of growing electoral successes by progressive Democrats.
Trump and Mount Rushmore: A Persistent Idea
The concept of Trump’s likeness on Mount Rushmore has been discussed for years. Former South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem recounted that Trump expressed this desire in 2018. In a 2019 interview, Trump acknowledged the potential for negative publicity from such speculation.
In 2020, Trump denied formally proposing his addition to the monument but remarked on social media, Never suggested it although, based on all of the many things accomplished during the first 3 1/2 years, perhaps more than any other Presidency, sounds like a good idea to me!
Trump has also shared images on social media, depicting himself among the presidents on Mount Rushmore. In May 2026, he posted an AI-generated image of this possibility.
Some Republican figures support the idea. Representative Anna Paulina Luna of Florida introduced legislation in 2025 urging the Department of the Interior to consider Trump’s inclusion. Representative Andy Ogles and White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers also voiced support for adding Trump’s likeness, despite known spatial limitations of the site. Mount Rushmore sculptor Gutzon Borglum once noted these constraints in a letter archived by Dickinson State University’s Theodore Roosevelt Center.
Future Events and Developments
Trump’s appearance at Mount Rushmore precedes a larger Freedom 250
event scheduled for Washington, D.C., on July 4. Coordination for these celebrations involves a congressionally established commission and several affiliated groups.
This story is developing with additional details forthcoming.
