He expressed confidence that the next 250 years will see even more progress due to their service.
In related news, a survey by WalletHub ranked the most and least patriotic states in the United States. Virginia topped the list, demonstrating high levels of military and civic engagement. In Virginia, there are nearly 1,761 active-duty military personnel per 100,000 civilians, making it third in the nation. Additionally, there are about 103 veterans per 1,000 civilians, the second-highest in the country.
WalletHub Financial Writer Adam McCann explained the methodology used in determining patriotism rankings. The study included over a dozen indicators, such as military enlistees, veterans, voter participation in the 2024 presidential election, and AmeriCorps volunteers per capita. Virginia’s high voter turnout and participation in civic activities contributed to its top placement.
Chip Lupo, a WalletHub analyst, noted that the most patriotic states have robust military participation, high voter turnouts, and active volunteerism. Patriotic sentiments are geographically diverse, with the states ranked highly coming from different regions.
Montana placed second, thanks to a considerable voter turnout and extensive volunteer service. The state also saw a high level of engagement in jury service and Americorps participation. Vermont, Colorado, and Oregon completed the top five ranking.
On the other end of the scale, Arkansas was rated as the least patriotic state, followed by New York, Louisiana, and Alabama. The survey findings suggest that states supporting Kamala Harris in the 2024 election were generally more patriotic than those voting for President Donald Trump.
