Paul Pelosi, the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was involved in a hit-and-run accident in Yountville, California. The incident occurred on Friday and left a parked car with substantial damage, according to authorities. Pelosi could potentially face misdemeanor charges.
The incident took place when Pelosi drove his brown convertible and hit a legally parked car. After briefly stopping, he drove away, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office reported. A witness notified the police after observing the collision. No injuries were reported.
Sheriff’s deputies later discovered Pelosi about a quarter of a mile away. His car showed damage to the front end. Pelosi, 86, acknowledged hitting something but could not specify when or what caused the impact. Authorities confirmed that alcohol was not involved.
A statement from the sheriff’s office indicated that Pelosi was referred to the Department of Motor Vehicles for a review of his driving capabilities, a routine procedure for older drivers.
No arrest was made. Due to the lack of injuries, the Sheriff’s Office suggested a misdemeanor charge for leaving the accident scene.
A staff member from Nancy Pelosi’s office did not respond to a request for comment.
In 2022, Paul Pelosi pled guilty to misdemeanor DUI charges in Napa County. He received a sentence consisting of five days in jail and three years of probation. However, he only served two days in jail, with credit for good conduct, and completed one day in a work program.
As part of his probation, he attended a drinking driver class and installed an ignition interlock device to ensure sobriety when driving. Pelosi also compensated roughly $5,000 for victim restitution and paid $2,000 in fines.
That same year, Pelosi suffered a severe beating during an attack with a hammer at his home in San Francisco.
