A seaplane carrying eight people crashed in the East River, near the Manhattan waterfront, after departing from the Hamptons on Sunday. Fire Department officials confirmed the safe rescue of all passengers.
The aircraft, a 10-seat seaplane, encountered trouble shortly before landing. Among those on board were a 75-year-old woman and her 16-year-old granddaughter, returning from a Fourth of July weekend.
During the final moments of the flight, the seaplane tipped sideways, submerging a wing. A total of four passengers, along with the pilot and a crew member, were rescued, according to fire department reports.
Khloe Todd, the teenage granddaughter, recorded the incident on her phone. Her grandmother, Ada Todd, expressed gratitude for their survival, stating, “I wanted her to have an experience, but this experience was very bad.”
The passengers escaped without serious injuries. However, Ada Todd reported experiencing a headache and backache following the crash.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the crash, indicating that a hard landing caused a wing strut to snap. This structural damage contributed to the seaplane’s abrupt descent into the river.
