Djokovic Surpasses Federer’s Wimbledon Record with Quarterfinal Victory

Novak Djokovic continues to solidify his status as one of tennis’s legends by surpassing Roger Federer with a historic win at Wimbledon. Djokovic’s victory over Roman Safiullin, with scores of 7-6 (6), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, allowed him to advance to the quarterfinals. This win marked Djokovic’s 106th triumph at Wimbledon, moving him ahead of Federer on the all-time list.

Martina Navratilova holds the overall Wimbledon record with 120 wins, leaving Djokovic with more ground to cover to reach her milestone. Speaking about his victory, Djokovic remarked, “Survive to thrive, that’s how I feel. So hopefully the thriving part is coming.”

The match on Centre Court extended nearly three and a half hours, making it Djokovic’s longest at Wimbledon since his 2023 final loss to Carlos Alcaraz. Historically, Alcaraz has posed challenges for Djokovic at Wimbledon, having defeated him in the previous year’s final.

However, Alcaraz is absent this year due to a serious right wrist injury known as tenosynovitis, which has sidelined him. The men’s favorite this year is Janik Sinner, who remains in contention, with odds of -175 to win. His match against Shintaro Mochizuki is underway.

According to DraftKings Sportsbook, Djokovic holds odds of +500 to clinch the Wimbledon title. If successful, he would claim his eighth title, tying with Federer for the most Wimbledon wins.

With Djokovic’s continued high-level performance, questions arise about whether Sunday’s match might have fatigued him ahead of his next challenge against Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime. Their match is scheduled for Tuesday, July 7, with Auger-Aliassime ranked as the No. 3 seed and No. 4 ATP player.
