Severe weather struck New Jersey on Monday, leading to a partial roof collapse at a large retail store. Two people found themselves temporarily trapped inside following the incident, according to local authorities.
Emergency services, including Ocean Township police and Monmouth County Sheriff’s deputies, responded swiftly to the scene at BJ’s Wholesale Club around 11:16 a.m. There were a total of 27 individuals present in the store at the time the ceiling collapsed. The sheriff’s office confirmed that two people were momentarily stuck under the debris but managed to extricate themselves and exit safely.
Footage from inside the BJ’s Wholesale Store in Oakhurst, N.J., showed extensive flooding resulting from the relentless rain.

No injuries were reported immediately following the event. By early afternoon on Monday, rainfall had exceeded two inches in parts of South Jersey, approximately 75 miles northwest of Philadelphia.
